Wine Tasting #2 - Clos du Bois

Image
Clos du Bois Chardonnay Rugged Coast, Cali, USA 2022 9.99 Wine.com describes this wine as " a refreshingly aromatic wine from the rugged coast of California. Scents of warm apple pastry rise from the glass with touches of honey and toasted oak. Bright layers of freshly sliced pear and ripe apple with zests of citrus carry through the long finish." This is probably one of my favorite wines that I have drank up until now because of the finish it had. The rich and buttery taste that was consistent in every sip was great. I liked that I had that creamy texture defined as one of the main characteristics of this wine according to Wine Folly pages 78 - 79. The initial hints of citrus through green apple and a little bit of pear was very refreshing as well. We did not pair this with any food but will plan to going forward with lighter, and creamier type foods.

Wine Tasting #1 - Casillero del Diablo

Casillero del Diablo Cabernet Sauvignon Chile, Central Valley 2021 $9.99 Wine.com describes this wine as a " Deep and intense ruby red. The expression of cassis in this wine perfectly represents the Valle Central and its richness in fruit such as cherries and plums. The barrel ageing length thanks to the toast and coffee notes. Medium bodied with silky tannins and long, ripe fruit and berry aftertaste, with impressive balance of fruit and polished tannins.  Pair with red meats, well-seasoned dishes, and aged cheeses such as Gruyere or blue." I was pleasantly surprised by this wine. I don't normally like reds but in drinking this medium-bodied wine, The main flavor that stood out for me was the sour cherry, aligned with Wine Folly's description of Cabernet on pages 104 and 105 of the textbook. The subtle hints of oak that came through also added a nice depth to the tasting experience. It also wasn't super bitter which was a nice finish for me. We didn't pair ...

My Wine Experience

Hello everyone, my name is Ryan Wilson, and I'm excited to get posting on this blog throughout the semester. I am a senior here at Virginia Tech and am on track to graduate in the spring. Sad, I know. Until then, I will be trying various wines and posting my thoughts on them here so be on the lookout! A little insight about me, I'm from Vienna, Virginia, and have lived there my whole life. I'm also the oldest of 3 brothers with one of them being a current sophomore here with me!     Onto my experience with wine, I don't really have that much as I am newly 21 and more of a beer guy myself. However, my mom likes wine, so I've had some glasses of chardonnay, pinot grigio, and prosecco with her while at home for breaks. Those wines were nice, but it's still not my favorite beverage if I were to go grab a beverage. With that being said, I definitely enjoy white wines more than reds, I think the reds that I've had have been too bitter for me. So through compl...
