Wine and Cheese Pairing #1

Wines: 19 Crimes Snoop Dogg Cali Gold, Chateau Ste Michelle Riesling, 19 Crimes Snoop Dogg Cali Red

Cheeses: Kroger cheese flight- sharp cheddar, chipotle gouda, dill rubbed fontal cheese

This is the second time I'm writing this since I accidentally deleted the text when formatting the pictures so that's fun. But to preface, we didn't do the best job picking the cheeses to pair and none of them were overly good.

The first wine that we tasted was Snoop Dogg's Cali Gold. I thoroughly enjoyed this sparkling wine and should've known that Snoop was going to create an enjoyable product. It was light, crisp, and had nice notes of pear to finish it off. When drinking it while eating the cheese, like I mentioned earlier there wasn't a good pairing. The cheddar overpowered it and that's all I tasted. The spice from the gouda was interesting and was made more intense by the carbonation. The fontal cheese brought out more of the pear flavors, but I personally did not enjoy the cheese itself.

The second wine we drank was a Riesling made by Chateau Ste Michelle. It was very light, almost clear in color, and didn't really have much of a flavor to it. There was, however, a pretty hefty ethanol scent, and due to this was pretty acidic and had a dry finish. I did enjoy drinking this one. The cheddar cheese negated some of the bitterness of this wine surprisingly, and wasn't super overpowering. The gouda brought out much more of the fuel taste which was not enjoyable. The dill was again not enjoyable mostly because I wasn't the biggest fan of it. There was a little citrus drawn from it however which was kind of nice.

The final wine that we drank was the 19 Crimes Snoop Dogg Cali Red. This wine was more of a medium bodied red wine blend, that was surprisingly sweet with notes of blackberry and little bit of cedar. I'm normally not the biggest fan of reds but this one was very enjoyable to finish off the tasting. The cheddar made the wine taste less sweet and brought out more of the cedar flavors, but was a fine combination. The gouda was terrible, definitely the worst pairing of the day, the wine was super bitter from the spice. The dill again was just not good. I didn't really get much from it since I was focused on keeping it down because I was not a fan and advise against getting that cheese unless you are a huge fan of pickles, and maybe drinking a beer instead.
